“Excursion” is defined as “a short trip, especially one that is engaged in as a leisure activity”… But this piece doesn’t allow ringers to remain leisurely! Written in fondness of the composer’s home in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, this piece depicts in music one of the composer’s favorite drives as described in the sub-title which features mountainous curves and switchbacks, rolling hills and pasture land. All the excitement of this beautiful ‘Excursion’ are musically summarized in an exciting piece full of mixed and irregular meter, fast tempo, clever use of stopped sound articulations, and texture that builds to the finish line. In the midst of all that, there are many dynamic changes which add to the excitement. Every ringer will be thoroughly engaged and challenged as they enjoy ringing this amazing, Bronze Level work!
