Caimano, Dorothy

Dorothy Caimano began formal piano lessons at age six and also taught herself to play accordion, and guitar. Throughout her life, she has participated in choirs, including singing with the Angeles Chorale, and recording with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus.

As a church music director, Dorothy led a handbell choir as well as a vocal choir. She discovered handbells as an adult and greatly enjoys the camaraderie, experiencing handbells as a cross between ballet and a team sport.

Dorothy received her Master’s Degree in Music Composition from California State University Northridge. Before that, she studied at Nyack College and the University of South Florida, receiving a BA in Music Education.

She has taught vocal music and orchestra, and mentored other music teachers, for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She maintains a private piano studio in Pasadena, California, and is an active member of the Music Teachers Association of California.
