This original and very expressive musical ‘tone poem’ will inspire listeners to visualize the miraculous development of a butterfly. The music reflects the metamorphosis and emergence from its protective chrysalis, where it unfolds its crumpled wings. In the sections described as “Awakening” and “Emerging” one can hear the first gentle attempts of moving its wings until this beautiful being finally takes full flight. “Taking Flight” features a lovely handchime melody with 16th-note patterns reflecting the fluttering of wings and glorious soaring until it gracefully and gently lands. Singing bell, table and suspended mallet, echo, mart, mart-lift, shake, LV, and even striking mallet handles on bell handles work beautifully to enhance this amazing work. The addition of optional percussion will provide the perfect finishing touch. This will be a glorious addition to your group’s concert repertoire!
