This delightful Puerto Rican “danza” was one of many danzas written by gifted Puerto Rican pianist and composer, José Ignacio Quintón. Blanco y Azul (White and Blue) is elegant and graceful, much in the style of ballroom dance scenes, complete with elegant gowns and evening wear for the men. The melody is engaging and the gentle rhythmic accompaniment does make one want to dance! It begins in D-major with two distinct melodic sections. A segue to G-major features a variation on the melody in the ‘4s’ with a lovely contrapuntal line in the treble before returning to the ‘A’ section in D-major. With a few exceptions, the foundational bass is gently malleted throughout. This is a 2022 Distinctly Bronze West selection. Click here to view/listen to this title and more on our YouTube channel
