This timeless tune by Mykola Leontovych is based on a folk chant called “shchedryk” which means ‘bountiful,’ and originally had nothing to do with Christmas but was a ‘winter well-wishing song.” However, there are hundreds of arrangements of this beautiful tune which has become a Christmas season standard. Kay and Nicholas have created a unique, haunting, and fascinating arrangement that is never rushed or frantic. There are some unexpected moments and abrupt dynamic changes sprinkled throughout -- which only add to the interest. Ultimately, it all resolves in a very satisfying and calm ending which will leave everyone smiling. Ensembles must purchase the number of copies needed to rehearse and perform this work.
