A New Day
Composers: Caleb J. Onstead
Handbells used: 3-7 (8) octaves
Handchimes used: 3-6 octaves
Level: 3
Caleb has created an original tone poem which reflects the course of a 24-hour day. It begins with Sunrise which begins with the sun quietly peeking over the horizon displaying its full power and glory, then leading into a calm Morning which gains energy as it moves on to the Afternoon. Of course, we all feel a bit of an energy slump in the afternoon and look forward to a calm Evening and Nighttime rest. The opening music returns announcing another New Day. This music is mostly Rung with nicely placed articulations which include LV, Mart, Mart-lifts, Sk and Table Mallets, plus a calm handchime section.
Dynamics are critical throughout and really bring life to this unique and creative work.
