Hark! The Glad Sound!
Title: Hark! The Glad Sound!
Composer: James Bawden
Handbells used: 3 – 6 octaves
Handchimes used: 3 or 5 octaves
Other: Optional synthesizer and percussion (triangle, jingle bells, bar chime, cymbal)
This celebratory music beautifully conveys the joy of Advent and Christmas seasons beginning with hints of the melody rung in repeated octaves leading into the full-choir main theme. Techniques including echo and Sk add to the excitement and addition of the optional synthesizer adds depth to the music. A key change segues to a variation of the main theme now rung on handchimes until it leads back to the ‘A’ section in the original key and on to the dynamic ending. Addition of nicely placed bar chime, jingle bells and cymbal rolls add to this creative setting.
