Reflections on "Londonderry Air" - solo
Tune: Traditional Irish Melody
Arranger: Kurt Meyer
Octaves Handbell: 3 (C#5-C7 with optional E7)
Octaves Handchimes: n/a
Level: 3
This fresh, lovely, and sensitive arrangement for handbell solo perfectly captures the nostalgia of the Irish who fled their beautiful and beloved country in the 19th century. It was first published in 1855 and the tune most likely originated in County Londonderry. Various lyrics have since been set to this sweet tune such as “O Danny Boy,” various Irish love songs, and included in several hymnals. The interplay between the bell solo and piano is magical as it segues through 3 key well-crafted key changes, alternately sharing the melody, and enjoying dynamic expression. A few well-placed LV and gyros add to the magic. This will be a wonderful addition to your handbell solo repertoire! Click here to view/listen to this title and more on our YouTube channel
