Wissinger, Kathleen
Kath Wissinger celebrates handbells in her well-crafted compositions – showcasing their unique character and wide range of possibilities in interesting rhythmic and melodic voices. She specializes in original pieces but also enjoys the challenge of spotlighting a well-known tune in a new light. Kath writes for all her choirs – currently her advanced teen handbell ensemble “Spectrum” at Massanutten Presbyterian Church (Penn Laird, Va.) and for her middle high bell classes at Redeemer Classical School (Harrisonburg, Va.) Kath is often commissioned to create special works, sometimes incorporating instruments, double choirs and original texts. She currently has about 50 pieces in print.
Kath directs beginning, intermediate and advanced ringers at events ranging from a single church workshop to 750 ringers – youth through adults. She also enjoys teaching at events – on topics ranging from mixed meter and accidentals to processionals and Four-in-Hand. Kath teaches piano students in her home studio.
